Definition: This is the process by which water is made safe for use from the point of collection to the final consumer.

Stages of safe water chain

  1. Collection – modes of collection include use of pots, saucepans, jerrycans, buckets, basins, direct pumping, etc.
  2. Screeening – Sedimentation or Filtration
  3. Purificaton – Chemical method using chlorine agents like Water Guard and Aqua Safe.
  4. Storage – In safe water containers like pots, jerrycans, drums, tanks, etc.
  5. Consumption: By final user for drinking, washing, bathing, etc.
